In recent years people have begun to perceive spas less as a luxury and more as a service that helps maintain a healthy life style. Spas have the important purpose of encouraging us to take better care of our minds and bodies.

Everyone knows that they can use a little bit of stress relief from their life, but not everyone knows how to get it. Learning about the many different types of spa treatments can help you figure out what you want out of your spa-going experience.

What is a spa?

To begin with you need to know the real meaning of spa. The word "spa" comes from a town in Belgium renowned for its thermal mineral waters. Allegedly it is also an acronym for "Salus per aquam" (health by water).

A spa is an educational and treatment center that addresses all the senses: tactile, intuitive, olfactory, visual and auditory.
It is usually a place for healing, a retreat to balance the mind, body and spirit, accomplished by relaxation techniques, and the use of natural resources such as essential oils, algae, mud and herbs used in scrubs, wraps, baths, facials and massage.

So if you are in the market for some rest and rejuvenation-and who isn't? - You will find that there are many different types of spas and an ever growing list of spa treatments out there.
Here in Spa Profiles Magazine you will find everything you need to know about the latest trends in spa treatments that will inspire you to lead a healthier lifestyle.
