Tui Na
Eastern Massage Therapy

If you are someone who has been interested in the effects and benefits that you can get from acupuncture, but aren't quite ready for the needles, you may find that Tui Na is exactly what you've been looking for!

Tui Na massage is a form of hands-on body treatment that uses the principles of traditional Chinese medicine to bring your body into balance.
People who have used Tui Na state that after the treatment, they often feel significantly more energized and refreshed.

This massage has grown in popularity and can be found all over the world.

Much like acupuncture, Tui Na practitioners believe that our bodies are controlled by the invisible flow of qi, or energy, through the meridian lines that run through our bodies.
This qi controls everything from our physical health to our emotional well-being, and we are the healthiest when the qi is flowing properly.
When the qi becomes congested, however, it needs to be unblocked, and in Tui Na, your massage therapist will help the qi resume its natural flow by applying pressure to the key points on your body.

Tui Na may be done independently as its own treatment or in combination with other treatments that are meant to relieve pain and release muscular tension.
In China, it is frequently used in conjunction with acupuncture, fire cupping, tai chi and traditional Chinese herbalism.
In traditional Chinese medicine, a very holistic view is taken regarding how to best make a person healthy and keep them healthy.

What to expect

When you go in to a Tui Na session, you should be prepared for a fairly intense experience.
While the results are often impressive, this is not necessarily a relaxing experience. You will find that your Tui Na practitioner will put significant pressure onto a spot to make sure that he or she gets results.
Sesame oil or massage oil might be used to make the massage easier to do. You'll find that the average Tui Na session can last from about thirty minutes to over an hour.

Remember that some of the sensations produced by this type of massage can be quite intense, and even painful.

Avoid this treatment if you have compound fractures, external wounds, or open sores. It is also not for women who are pregnant or for people who have tumors. If you have any doubts, make sure that you clear them with your massage therapist beforehand.

Tui Na is a powerful massage technique that can be used to reduce pain, relieve stress and ease digestion.
If you are curious about this massage therapy, take a look at your local spa or resort and give it a try!
