Tai Chi For many people who are looking for more relaxation and peace in their lives, tai chi, also known as tai chi chuan is where they are finding it.
Although this exercise is known as a martial art, it can be distinguished from other martial arts for its slow, gentle movements and its non-competitive nature.
It has been used in the east for thousands of years as a method for heightened concentration and focus, and in the west, it is receiving a great deal of attention for being able to relax the body and soothe the mind.

Tai chi is often translated as the supreme ultimate force, and it is founded on the principle of chi, which is generally known as the life energy that is found in every living things.
According to traditional Chinese medicine, chi is something that flows through your body much like blood, and if it is blocked or in some way clogged, you will find yourself dealing with increasingly destructive physical and mental health issues.
What tai chi is thought to do is to help you regulate the flow of chi through your system, allowing you feel more healthy and more at ease in your own skin.
As you practice this exercise, you値l find that you can easily take the time to breathe correctly; you will become more aware of your body and more in tune with the world around you.

At the most basic level, it is a series of movements and stretches that you will go through.
The movements are performed as slowly and as smoothly as you can, and each pose and each posture will let you move smoothly from one to the other.
There is absolutely no aggression or force used in these motions, and over all, technique and smoothness of movement are valued more highly than strength.
With this exercise, it is very easy to see that it takes more skill and strength to do something slowly than to speed through it!

You don稚 need to be a certain height or possess a certain amount of strength.
You値l find that there are more than a hundred postures and movements that you can learn, and chances are, there are a series of movements in there that will suit you.
Some people will rigorously practice the same postures every day, while other people will vary it a great deal.
There are groups which will do this together, or you may find that you do quite well on your own.

There are many reasons that you might choose to practice tai chi. It is certainly good exercise, and you値l find that it can be done with a minimum amount of room and preparation.
It is a practice that is known to help you reduce stress and increase flexibility, and you値l also find that it can improve your muscle strength as well.
Many people experience a great feeling of well-being when they practice this art, something that is hard to get with other forms of exercise that require more exertion or competition.
You値l also find that after practicing it that you can experience an increase in your energy level.

You値l find that you can include it into your life at any point in the day.
Many people start out the day with it; they might find a quiet park or an unused corner of their house to go through poses and motions for a short while.
Plenty of people will do it around the midday trough, the time after lunch when they are feeling quite slow and sluggish.
While doing it before bed can make it a little hard to sleep, you値l find that you only have to choose calming postures and poses to work with before you go to bed.

If you are interested in this form of exercise, you値l find that the best way to get started is to take a look at some local classes; tai chi is often offered at spas and at gyms.
If you don稚 have access to a real teacher, try a DVD or video to get you started. This might prove to be an excellent way for you to get more grounded in your body and to enjoy many different health benefits.
