Dermal Fillers

Everyone is trying to look younger and healthier, and you'll find that one of the best ways to do so is by taking a look at your skin.

When it comes to finding shortcuts to a better appearance, you'll find that when you improve your skin, there is an overall improvement to your entire appearance.

Skin is one of the first areas to show age, and while we can nurture our skin by getting plenty of water and using good cleansing and exfoliation methods, sometimes more intensive procedures can be necessary.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal filling has been advertised as the face-lift without surgery, and if you have an interest in seeing marked improvement in wrinkles, crow's feet or sunken and scarred skin, this is one of the best options out there. dermal fillers

There are many different types of dermal fillers out there, but they all essentially work in the same way.

Have in mid that this procedures can only be done under licensed healthcare professional at a cosmetic med spa or at a doctor's office.

These fillers, no matter what they are made of, are injected under your skin where there is a wrinkle.

Where they have been injected, you'll find that the skin plumps out, smoothing out the wrinkles.

We get wrinkles and crow's feet when the elastin underneath your skin starts to deteriorate and our bodies can no longer replace it as easily as it once did; in the situation of scarring, the elastin has been damaged on a permanent basis.

The dermal fillers will take over where your body can no longer keep up.

Types of Dermal Fillers

When you start looking into this process, there are many different kinds of dermal fillers to choose from, and your cosmetic dermatologist can help you make a good decision.

Take a look at some of the choices that you have, and with a little bit of research, you'll be able to make a much better decision.

Collagen

Bovine collagen has been in use for a very long time for the purposes of dermal filling and also the most inexpensive.

It lasts about 6 months, after which it will need to be redone to keep up the more youthful look.

You'll find that this is the only dermal filler that needs skin testing, as about 1 percent of people are allergic to bovine collagen.

More about collagen here.

Radiesse

This filler is made of natural ingredients that you will not have a reaction to. The effcts created with Radiesse can last for years instead of months.

Restylane® and Perlane®

These are the latest dermal fillers, which you can be certain not to be allergic to, since their primary ingredient is hyaluronic acid, something your body already makes.

More on these dermal fillers here.

Sculptra

At the other end of the spectrum, you'll find Sculptra, which is a good example of the synthetic dermal filling that has become available.

This dermal filler contains poly-lactic acid, and unlike collagen, will require three or more treatments.

On the other hand, it will generally last for two years and skin testing is not required.

What to expect

Keep in mind that no type of dermal filling is permanent.

Fortunately, however, the procedure to inject dermal filling into your skin is quite short, often lasting no longer than twenty minutes to half an hour.

They are often referred to as "Lunchtime Procedures" because they take very little time to perform and do not have any recovery period.

Afterwards, you can expect to see some swelling, and perhaps some bruising where the needle went in, but these signs will disappear over a span of two days at most.

As you can see, there are many things that you can do when you want to stay looking young and healthy, so don't delay.

Head to your local cosmetic med spa or dermatologist and find out what's available to you!
