The Ins and Outs
of Collagen Injections

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?

As we age, more and more people are realizing that wrinkles and fissures are appearing at what feel to be the speed of light, and this can affect our entire perception of ourselves.

However, there is no reason to feel helpless in the face of our impending old age.

In fact, there are many things that we can do to take on challenges like wrinkles, which were once considered just a fact of life.

Collagen injections are one of the best ways to fight the aging process, and with a little bit of research, you will see exactly why so many people swear by this treatment.

When you are looking at your skin, you already know that there are many things that can damage it and cause it to look less than youthful.

You'll find that the sun will weather it, and that the movement of your muscles will affect the way it looks, but you also need to be aware that the condition of your skin is simply a factor of time and of age.

As we age, our skin loses the elasticity it once had.

It doesn't spring back the way it used to because the elastin fibers that support it are breaking down.

Pinch the skin at the back of your hand and there's a good chance that you will notice that it feels a great deal looser and more papery than it did when you were younger.

How does collagen work?

The way that collagen, a dermal filler, fixes this problem is by essentially filling in the gaps left by the elastin fibers.

When collagen is injected into the areas that are affected by wrinkles, you'll find that the skin will feel firmer and fuller than it has for quite a while.

This has the effect of giving your skin and your face a more youthful appearance, something that can make quite a difference. restylene injection

There are several areas that can ably be treated by collagen injections.

Most frequently, you will find collagen recommended for the frown lines that occur between the eyes, the two lines that descend from the corner of your mouth to your chin, smile lines, crow's feet in the corners of your eyes and worry lines in your forehead.

It is also important to note that collagen injections can also treat a wide variety of scars.

It can be used anywhere where a scar has left a depression in your face; most notably, collagen can be used to effectively treat scars left from skin conditions like acne.

You will find that this procedure is a very simple and painless one.

It even has the distinction of being what is called a lunchtime procedure due to the fact that it can take as little as twenty minutes.

This procedure is done either at a cosmetic med spa or at a doctor's office.

Remember that your first session, which will include the skin test and a consultation, will be a bit longer, but that it should still come in at under an hour.

Essentially, a very small needle will inject small amounts of collagen under your skin, and then you will be able to drive yourself home or back to work.

What are the secondary effects?

It is important to note, however, that if you are interested in this procedure that a simple skin test is necessary.

About 1 percent of the people seeking this treatment turn out to be allergic to the bovine collagen that is used and the test is done to prevent an allergic reaction.

After receiving a collagen injection, you may notice a little bit of swelling, which will go away in a few hours.

You may also notice that there is some slight bruising where the needle was used, but it tends to be very minimal and will disappear within a few days at most.

The benefits of collagen include its quick administration as well as the fact that it is simply not as invasive or as risky as surgery.

While some people use collagen injections as a stepping stone to becoming more comfortable with cosmetic surgery, other people simply continue to use collagen.

Collagen is not a permanent solution in that the effects need to be repeated every few months or so.

Many people, both men and women, make it a point to go to their local spa or clinic three or four times a year.

Take a moment and think about what this procedure can do for you.

It is quick, almost painless, and one of the most effective methods out there for reducing and eliminating the signs of aging.
