Chakras
Today we are beginning to rediscover these ancient mysteries and use them for healing our minds, bodies and souls. Whether you are interested in many types of complementary therapies or you are simply curious to see what types of philosophies are underneath many of the health practices that we engage in, you'll find that there is a lot to be seen when you are thinking about chakras. Everyone has an energy field around them called an aura. The aura is linked to the body by the chakras. Auras and chakras are our energy body and they can best be described as a rainbow of light. The Aura is a fluctuating energy field that surrounds your body like a rainbow of swirling colors in an egg shaped form. White light is made up of several mixed colors called a spectrum. The seven main colors of the spectrum are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Chakras resonate in harmony with these seven colors. This is sometimes called our inner light. Colored light flows to and from the aura via our energy channels called meridians used in acupuncture, acupressure or shiatsu massage. This is how light reaches our cells with life sustaining information through the aura, chakras and meridians. The word chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel of light”. A chakra implies roundness or a circle, something that is complete and whole. The chakra can also refer to an endless rotation or to various important places on the body, and this is where we start taking a look to see where chakras fit in when it comes to body work.
Integrating Chakras into Your WorldIn terms of the use of chakras for health practices, it is understood that there are line of chakras ascending from the base of your spine up to the top of your head. Each chakra rules over a several different functions of your body, an aspect of your consciousness and a classical element. These chakras are instrumental to the way that your body is energized and they are often associated with your interactions on both a physical and a mental plane. Traditional teachings refer to seven main chakras; there are also an earth chakra below the feet, a higher heart chakra just above the heart, and higher crown chakras above the head and twenty one minor or secondary chakras. If blocked or overactive, chakras can create disharmony. If untreated, this leads to physical, emotional or mental dis-ease. As long as the energy is flowing correctly the body remains healthy, but if the energy is congested or not allowed to flow as it should, many problems can develop. Reiki and crystal healing, among many other therapies, gently balance and realign chakra energies. Many people who work with chakras feel that there is a strong correspondence between the role and the manipulation of the chakras and the glands in the endocrine system, which regulate everything from metabolism to growth, to hormones to tissue function. In many ways, the manipulation of the chakras is said to affect this very vital system and to stimulate it, bringing your body around to a better balance. The chakras can be seen to be a very basic part of your body and when you work with them, whether through meditation, reiki, yoga, tai chi, qigong or the physical work of massage, you'll find that your mind, body, and spirit will respond. More and more resorts and spas are offering this practice, so make sure that you explore this powerful concept.
