Botox:
Everything You
Need to Know

Every year, you will notice more wrinkles, and no matter how you feel about them, there is a good chance that you think that they are here to stay.

In actuality, there is no reason that you have to look at your wrinkles any longer than you want to when you take into account the presence of Botox and what it can do for you.

Botox has been referred to as the miracle cure for wrinkles, and you'll find that it is a treatment that has earned its popularity.

Botox is a safe and extremely effective treatment for laugh-lines, crow's feet and wrinkles, and thanks to its FDA approval, is has gained wide acceptance.

You can be sure to find Botox available in almost every medical spa.

What is Botox for anyway?

Essentially, Botox takes care of dynamic wrinkles, the wrinkles that you have due to motions that your face makes, whether you are laughing or frowning.

Botox will block impulses from your nerves to your facial muscles that are connected to these wrinkles; the muscles underneath the skin are relaxed so that they will not contract.

After the treatment has run its course, the skin above the muscles will remain smooth while the nearby muscles that have been not been treated resume their normal action.

While the muscles underneath the wrinkles do not move, you will see that your skin maintains a youthful appearance.

It is important to note, though, that Botox only treats wrinkles that are caused by the contraction of the facial muscles.

It will not treat skin that has become toneless due to aging and or damaged due to the sun, which is another leading cause of wrinkles and skin problems.

How is the procedure done?

Botox The procedure of applying Botox, also known as cosmetic denervation, is simple, fast and fairly painless.

A small amount of the Botox substance is injected into the areas being treated using a micro needle.

This is sensation is comparable to a small insect bite and is so minor that absolutely no sedation or anesthetic is required.

This is definitely an outpatient procedure, and if you wish, you can drive yourself home afterwards.

It is quick enough that some people will even schedule treatment for a long lunch break to ensure that they have enough time to get to the med spa and back. Hence the name "lunchtime procedure".

What are the side effects?

The side effects of Botox are fairly mild.

Some people who have delicate skin will see some temporary bruising that will go way in a few days.

Very rarely, Botox can migrate underneath the skin and cause a temporary weakening in nearby muscles.

This is an effect that wears off quite quickly, thanks to the small amount of chemical that is used.

There have been reported cases of injection area tenderness and mild headaches after the procedure, they will go away within 24 hours.

You'll also find that there are very rare cases of issues with an asymmetrical facial appearance or with an eyelid that becomes weakened and drooping, but this is quite rare, and, thanks to the nature of Botox, entirely temporary.

How long will Botox last?

It is important to note that Botox it self is a temporary procedure and that for the best results, it is a procedure that should be repeated every three to six months.

Due to the fact that there is a great deal of variation when it comes to the rate at which your body will process Botox, this will different for everyone.

Essentially, the Botox will wear out of your system, leaving your muscles once again active and the wrinkles will return.

However, due to the inexpensive, painless and entirely commonplace procedure for Botox administration, this is something that more and more people are realizing that they can work into their self-care regimen.

Who can use Botox?

It is interesting to note that Botox has managed to cross the gender line so throughly.

Men and women and women of all ages are looking in to what Botox can do for them; some of the effects that Botox can handle are quite extraordinary.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to see what Botox can do for you and your appearance.

It is important to keep in mind, though, that Botox should not be taken by pregnant women and that it can interact with certain drugs in an unwanted fashion.

Remember to consult thoroughly with a doctor before embarking on any such enterprise, but more likely than not, you'll find that this is a great option for you.
