Body Wraps

When you go to a spa, the sheer variety of spa treatments and procedures that you can have done can be a little bit dizzying, and many people feel a little reluctant to try treatments unless they have an idea of what they are about.

Because spas provide treatments that are quite varied, you'll find that some are for you and some aren't.

What to Expect From Your Body Wrap

The body wrap is one body treatment that is being offered at spas and though you might find the end result of fresh skin and revitalization attractive, you might be a little leery of the process until you hear more about it!

During a body wrap, you'll be liberally covered with a substance like seaweed or mud and then wrapped up for 20 minutes.

Afterwards, you'll be unwrapped and then showered to get the sediment off of your body before moisturizer is applied to recondition your skin.

While these are the bare essentials of the body wrap experience, you'll find that there is a lot more that you should be aware of.

How it is done

Before the body wrap starts, your body will be exfoliated with a scrub and then showered clean.

More and more spas are instituting the use of the Vichy showers, which are essentially showers with five to seven showerheads. This will allow the water to hit you from all angles without you having to do anything except lie prone on the table.

This is a wonderfully relaxing way to get the sediment from the exfoliation off of your body and to prepare you for the wrapping procedure.

Body Wrap The basic goal of a body wrap will change depending on what substance is used underneath the wrapping.

For instance, you'll find that body wraps that use rich lotions or Shea butter are meant to hydrate your skin and soften it.

Body wraps that use things like clay, mud or seaweed, on the other hand are meant to help your body get rid of toxins.

Most spas that offer one will offer the other, and while there are some slight tactile differences, the feel is essentially the same.

After your scrub or exfoliation, your body will be slathered with the substance that you have chosen and you will be wrapped up to keep warm. During this time, your technician will leave or, if the procedure is being done by a massage therapist, may give you a gentle scalp or foot massage.

After the mask, whether it is mud or lotion or seaweed has done its job, you'll be rinsed off.

In this case, a Vichy shower is a terrific option because you don't have to walk even a short distance covered in the body wrap material; you can simply lie there and let the sediments be rinsed away with a hand held shower head.

After you have dried off, there will be another application of moisturizer to further condition your skin.

When you are considering getting a body wrap, remember that, especially if it is being done using Vichy showers, that this is not really a procedure for someone who is overly modest or claustrophobic.

Similarly, you'll want to keep in mind that unless otherwise specified that the body wrap will not include a massage or a facial .

It is important to go into spa experiences knowing what to expect, so take a look at this cleansing and refreshing procedure and see what it can do for you!
