Acupressure

If you have been investigating what your local spa has to offer, or you are curious about what type of massage might be right for you, you'll find that acupressure is a widely recognized and highly recommended type of massage therapy that is becoming quite popular in spas and health resorts everywhere.

Though it uses many of the same techniques and terms as acupuncture, it does not involve needles; instead it uses deep tissue and massage to affect the way that your body works and feels to you.

Acupressure massage is one of the many different techniques that can be found in traditional Chinese medicine.

According to the philosophy behind the treatment, our bodies use streams of energy called chi or qi, and our health is affected by how well these streams of energy flow.

When they are congested or cannot flow correctly, we will suffer from it in a variety of different ways, from depression to migraines to various and pervasive aches and pains.
If left unchecked, this sort of congestion can lead to chronic problems and illnesses.

Acupressure massage is a way to regulate the flow of energy through our bodies and to direct it towards a healthier cause; in many ways, it treads a fine line between being a healing method and a medicinal tool.
Acupressure Practitioners of acupressure massage therapy will work with you and learn about the meridians through your body, the pathways through which the qi travels.

Through some preliminary investigation, they will provide you with a massage that is used to target the places where you have problems, that is, the areas that will most affect the any problems or discomforts that you have been encountering in your life.

While there are a variety of different techniques that are used to stimulate the flow of energy through your body, you'll find that most often your flesh will be rubbed, squeezed, pressed and tapped.
Be aware that each acupressure massage therapist will have a different technique that they use, but that they will largely focus on the the same areas.

What to Expect From Your Acupressure Massage.

This is a therapy that can be conducted while you are wearing loose-fitting clothes; the emphasis is on your comfort, and this can be an excellent massage therapy for patients who are uncomfortable disrobing in front of a stranger.

There will usually be a consultation beforehand, where you will tell your practitioner what you are hoping to get out of the massage as well as informing them of any injuries or health concerns that are will be coming up.
Be open and honest in order to get the best massage experience possible.

During this therapy, you'll find that your acupressure massage therapist will use their hands on the various pressure points of your body, looking for the right way to stimulate your qi to make it flow properly.

This is a slightly “heavier” or deeper massage than some others; it is worth noting that this is considered in many ways to be a deep tissue massage, so you will find that the handling will be very firm.

While keeping this expectation in mind, remember that it is always okay to tell your practitioner when you are not comfortable with a particular manipulation, or when something becomes too painful.

Benefits of Acupressure

As mentioned above, acupressure massage has benefits that can be quite medicinal in nature, and the range of things that can be treated with acupressure massage is impressively large.

The first and foremost benefit that people who undergo acupressure massage receive is the reduction in stress and tension.

The simply touch of a practiced acupressure massage can be something that brings down your blood pressure and reduces your anxiety; some people even go into a quasi-trance state where they feel comfortable and at ease.

One thing that this type of massage is good for is taking away the tension of your muscles and making sure that the circulation of your blood is in good working order.

Many people feel that acupressure massage is excellent for people who have been having problems with chronic pain, and it has even been known to help people with problems that are considered to be primarily mental, like depression.
If you are looking for an intense massage experience that will leave you feeling fresh, invigorated and full of energy, you might find that acupressure is the massage technique that you have been looking for. Check to see if it is available at your local spa as soon as you can!
