Acne Treatments

Even if you are dealing with severe acne, there are many acne treatments out there that can really help.

Of course the same treatments don’t always work the same way with everyone, so you are going to have to find the treatment that works the best for you.

The following are a few of the most popular acne treatments out there. You can also find out about the most common acne myths here.

- Acne Laser Surgery

Acne Laser Surgery is the closest thing to a speedy real result, but there are things you need to understand first.

More on Acne Laser Surgery...

- Accutane (Isotretinoin)

It is a form of vitamin A, it reduces the oil production from your oil glands and promotes faster skin renewal.

It is used as a "last resort" when all else has failed to treat severe nodular acne.

- Antibiotics

For more severe acne, sometimes dermatologists prescribe antibiotics.

Some of the most common antibiotics used to treat acne include erythromycin, tetracycline, doxycycline, and minocycline.

- Benzoyl Peroxide

Probably the most common treatment for acne is benzoyl peroxide.

It is great for treating mild to moderate acne and is very safe as well.

It works by getting rid of the bacteria that actually causes acne; however, it can take a couple weeks before you see it working.

There are a few side effects, such as dry skin and mild irritation.

- Birth Control Pills

For women who are dealing with acne, often birth control pills can be used to treat the acne problem.

Many of these birth control pills help to regulate hormones that may be causing the acne problem.

So, this is a great treatment for women who deal with hormonal acne.

- Blue Light PhotoDynamic Therapy

Is the new way to treat moderate acne.

Your doctor may say treatments previously mentioned are not right for your acne.

BLUE Light PhotoDynamic Therapy is now FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate acne and may be the treatment for you.

- Natural Herbal Remedies

Today, more and more people are going for natural remedies instead of medications, and acne treatments are no different.

There are a variety of natural and herbal remedies available to help treat acne, and the bonus is that most do not have the side effects that other treatments tend to have. Acne facials are also a great way to maintain a healthier skin from treatment to treatment.

- Retin-A (Tretinoin)

Tretinoin, also known as Retin-A, Avita or Renova, is a very effective medication used to treat acne.

It is a derivative of Vitamin A and is one of the many topical treatments of choice for whiteheads and blackheads.

It works by increasing skin cell turnover promoting the extrusion of the plugged material in the follicle. It also prevents the formation of new comedones .

Tretinoin is also the only topical medication that has been proven to improve wrinkles.

- Salicylic Acid

Another very common treatment for acne is salicylic acid.

It is a type of acid that helps to get rid of the dead skin cells that can clog pores.

There are many acne products that contain it, and often it is used with benzoyl peroxide.

A few side effects include irritation as well as dry skin.
