Acne Laser Surgery

There’s not a person on the planet who isn’t affected by acne. Some have the occasional pimple, and some have deep, painful, cystic acne that damages their skin and their self esteem.

It seems like there are as many was to treat the problem as there are people who suffer from it. It can be difficult to tell what will really work, and what is simply a lame appeal aimed at desperate folks who feel like they have already tried everything else.

In general, it’s a pretty good idea to stay away from anything that promises a quick fix, such as a crystal clear complexion overnight. That’s not going to happen, no matter how you scrub, mask or peel.

Laser Acne Surgery is the closest thing to that kind of speedy result, but there are things you need to understand first.

• It is somewhat of a quick fix in that it minimizes the visible effects of acne fairly quickly, but keep in mind that its beauty truly is only skin deep.
The procedure can effectively treat scaring and other surface signs of acne, but it cannot heal or get to the root of the problem.
Without long term adjustments in skincare and diet, acne will only return and all the time and trouble of surgery will have been wasted.

• Laser treatment is real surgery, not a luxurious spa-like treatment. It should be respected as such.
As with any surgery, there can be serious complications. The procedure should be conducted by a well trained professional who takes the time to not only explain the benefits of laser treatment, but also the risks.

• Make sure you understand the monetary cost of the surgery.
Though acne damages the quality of many people’s lives, it’s not life threatening.
Insurance companies may consider the procedure to be purely cosmetic and may not cover all, or any, of the costs.
If you don’t do your homework ahead of time, you may be hit with hefty surprise expenses.

Laser treatment is just one of the many options in acne treatment. No matter which route you decided to go with, make sure you have all the facts.
